THE GRAIN Presents

THE MEMORY MACHINE

An AI art exhibition and speaker series

Artists fear AI undermines the creative industry.

The resulting paralysis is a self-fulfilling prophecy—if artists don’t confront this fear and adapt, they risk erasure.

A dramatic mindset shift is required: In collaboration with humans, AI can be a powerful tool that enhances creativity and makes impossible possible.

THE MEMORY MACHINE

THE MEMORY MACHINE is a groundbreaking AI art exhibition and series presented by
THE GRAIN.

Artists both versed and averse to artificial intelligence will explore generative tools to create vivid multimedia depictions of a profound personal or collective memory.

The exhibition includes

A curated collection of Canadian senior and emerging artists.

A speaker series featuring industry leaders in art, advertising, technology and education.

Reception and in-person networking.

Global online engagement on website, social and forums.

Press coverage in Canada and abroad.

ARTISTS:
We’re inviting you to dig deep

THE MEMORY MACHINE is looking for creators to use AI tools—text-to-image, text-to-video, sound, or mixed media—to reconstruct something that no longer exists: a lost object, a childhood place, a feeling, a ghost of memory.

Whether you’re new to AI generative art or have experience, we want your take on how memory lives on through machines. It is a chance to explore AI-driven creative process, and connect with others to share your findings.

Selected artists will create original work for THE MEMORY MACHINE, and will be featured in group show in Toronto and online exhibition with the opportunity to speak on a live panel and be profiled on THE GRAIN podcast and newsletter.

Our Sponsors

Environmental Responsibility

At THE MEMORY MACHINE, we’re not just exploring what AI can create — but at what cost.
Generative AI has an environmental footprint, and we’re encouraging artists to use it thoughtfully: prompting with care, limiting excess, and choosing efficient tools.
We believe creativity and responsibility can co-exist. As we revisit the past through emerging tech, we aim to keep our impact light — and the dialogue open.
Have ideas for low-impact AI artmaking? We’d love to hear from you.

Climate-Conscious Sponsor

We’re seeking a sponsor to offset the carbon footprint of THE MEMORY MACHINE — including the energy used for AI generation and digital production.
This is a chance to align your brand with sustainable innovation and be recognized as our official Environmental Impact Sponsor across all event and digital materials.
If you’re passionate about climate-conscious tech and creative responsibility, let’s connect.
